Now, the problem here is that not everyone knows what the reason behind this phenomenon is. Do you know why your or your favorite videos are stuck at 301 views?
You upload the video to You Tube and it is an instant sensation. However you’re wondering; can you increase your own views by refreshing the page? You Tube’s definition of a view is a viewer initiated intentional play of a video.EDIT After a bit more research the video was updated 11 hours ago by google. So I'm not guessing that it is not calculated hourly. As one other has suggested this may be due to server side caching and not part of calculation or it could be due to both.At any rate it may not be able to update the view count instantaneously so it has to do it on a regularly scheduled interval or simply when the servers have time to recalculate it.
I only bothered going to the 100th page of comments as I don't see a way of going to the very last comment. In the early years of You Tube a view count would increase whenever the video was loaded. This was a reasonable system, except it quickly became obvious that anyone - from a teenager sharing a home video to a business sharing a commercial –could simply reload their video over and over to increase their view count artificially.Since You Tube’s homepage displays popularly viewed videos sorted by the number of views, it was easy for anyone to game the system and have their video appear on You Tube’s front page. You Tube couldn’t have that, so they tweaked the system a little. My guess is that this is due to avoiding duplicate views for the same IP Address.
